Summary Majority of cities saw temperatures running between 46-52 degrees Centigrade in the last two days

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk)  Director General (DG) of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said in an interview that it has happened for the first time in Pakistan’s history that mercury has recorded above 45degrees Centigrade (°C) for two consecutive days early June.

During the interview with Express Tribune, the Met DG cited unusual weather occurrences for higher temperatures this summer.

Majority of cities saw temperatures running between 46°C to 52°C in the last two days, he said.

He said that the last time Islamabad crossed 45 degrees Centigrade was back in 2005 when the mercury hit 46.5°C. Latest statistics of PMD report that a 31-year-old record broke on Sunday in Dera Ismail Khan as temperature rose up to 51 degrees.

In June 1986, the hottest temperature until last Sunday was recorded which was 50°C. This June 4, Sibbi saw mercury at 51°C, Sargodha at 50°C and Dera Ghazi Khan at 49°C.

According to the Met, excessive heat will cause lesser rain, heavy lightening and thunder and gusty winds.
