60pc Pakistanis suffering from depression: analysts

Pakistan has been ranked 100 in list of healthy countries.

LAHORE (Dunya News)- A recent study narrates that depression afflicts almost 60pc of Pakistan’s population. The disease is spreading rapidly in country.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), at least 3500 million people across globe are suffering from some sort of mental disorder, an increase of more than 18% between 2005 and 2015.

Health analysts believe that depression is second top killer after heart-related diseases.

Possible symptoms of depression includes tearfulness, sleeping disorder, not enjoying activities like one did in past and feeling irritable. Rampant use of technological devices like smart phones and internet are considered main causes behind soaring mental disorders.

Though, Pakistan, along with rest of the world, is observing world health day today but country has only 400 psychiatrists for its estimated 200 million population.
