KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah voiced severe concerns over Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif’s decision of approval of 97 gas projects and mostly in Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) stronghold Punjab.

Murad, in a letter to premier, termed this decision ‘source of discontent’ as it may be detrimental to national harmony of country.

It should be recalled that Nawaz has approved 97 gas projects worth Rs37 billion.

"Expansion of new gas network in Punjab, which produces only about 3 per cent of gas but consumes over 42 per cent of the total gas produced in the country, is in complete disregard of Article 158 of the Constitution," reads Shah s letter, a copy of which is available with dunyanews.tv.

Article 158 of the Constitution, titled ‘Priority of requirements of natural gas’ states “The province in which a well-head of natural gas is situated shall have precedence over other parts of Pakistan in meeting the requirements from the well-head”.

Murad urged Nawaz to immediately lift ban on new gas connections and direct SSGCL to provide gas connections to all domestic, industrial and commercial sectors in Sindh.
