WEB DESK (Dunya News) - US Consul General Grace Shelton alongside Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza on Wednesday co-chaired a roundtable discussion at the Old Consulate General Residence.
The meeting was also attended by the fifteen female members of the Sindh Assembly.
The participants discussed and present their perspective about female participation in the political process and how this fact could help the Sindh Government to improve advance democratic governance, political stability, and women’s empowerment.
At the occasion, U.S. Consul General Grace Shelton noted the barriers to political participation women face in the U.S. and also around the world and was eager to hear about the female politicians’ experiences here in Sindh.
"We are taking steps to help women participate more fully in the political process," Grace Shelton revealed, adding, “In Sindh, the U.S. government supports the Gender Equity Program, which, among other things, provides grants to help women register for Computerized National Identity Cards. That in turn allows them to vote."
During the discussion, Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza draw attention to significance of women participation in politics, and briefed the US Consul General about the progress Sindh government has made for the empowerment of women and girls education.
