KP govt, opposition agree over police bill
Amendments have been made in the bill so as to give more powers to IG Police
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – A meeting of the special committee for police ordinance bill was held in the KP Assembly, reported Dunya News.
The meeting was chaired by CM Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak while attended by the Leader of Opposition in KP Assembly, parliamentary leaders and ministers of the provincial government.
It has been reported that the government and opposition parties have agreed over the proposed police ordinance bill in the meeting.
In addition, amendments have been made in the bill so as to give more powers to IG Police.
CM KP let it be known that there will be no political interference in the provincial police after the new bill.
Head of KP Police also revealed at the occasion that there the authority of police has not lessened owing to the new bill and that the power of transfers and appointments will remain with IG.
Although the opposition parties have given their approval over all the section of police bill, however are still opposing the fact of police transfers.
It is pertinent to mention that police ordinance will end with effect from Jan 28 and the approval of police bill from the KP Assembly will be taken in January.
