Justice Saqib Nisar sworn in as 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday has taken oath as 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan.

According to details, President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath to new CJP in a ceremony held at President House in Islamabad.

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, federal ministers, judges of the Supreme Court (SC), and chiefs of all three armed forces were present on the occasion.

Justice Nisar has replaced Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali whose tenure ended after 15 months since September 2015.

Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was born in Lahore on January 18, 1954. He did his matriculation from the Cathedral High School, Lahore, graduation from the Government College, Lahore, and bachelor of law from the University of Punjab.

He joined legal profession as an advocate in 1980. He was enrolled as an advocate of the High Court in 1982 and as advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1994. Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was elevated as the Judge of the Lahore High Court on May 22, 1998 and of the Supreme Court of Pakistan on February 18, 2010.

Justice Saqib Nisar was appointed as the secretary for federal law in March 1997 and became first member of the bar association. 

In April this year, Justice Saqib Nisar performed duties as acting CJP in the absence of Justice Anwar Jamali who was on a seven-day official visit to Turkey.
