Atomic Energy Secretary blamed the government for lack of funds in energy-related projects.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A national assembly session was held on Tuesday under committee for planning and development. It was told that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will inaugrate Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-3 tomorrow, reported Dunya News.

The session was reduced to heated arguments from Secretary of Atomic Energy who blamed the federal government to give lack of funds for energy-related projects. He questioned, “How will the projects be completed when the government does not provide funds?”

Secretary revealed that the country has a capacity to produce 1 lac megawatts of hydroelectricity. 

The secretary further stated in the lower house that promises of funds for atomic energy projects in Karachi have not been fulfilled which has slowed down the project development.

According to chairman of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), hydro power projects that can yield 60,000 megawatts of electricity were highlighted. He said that only 7,000 megawatts energy is being produced by hydro power projects currently.

Moreover, WAPDA chairman revealed that foreign donors entangled the matter of financing Bhasha Dam. He further told that there was not even an inch of land for Dasu Dam, however, five awards were already signed.
