Citizens concerned about Punjab govt's plan to restore Basant celebrations
Basant is likely to be celebrated in the end of February or in the start of March.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – People have raised questions over the provincial government’s plan to revive kite festival as suggestions to hold the event have been sent to Chief Minister of Punjab (CM) Shehbaz Sharif.
Sources told that the ‘killer’ Basant is likely to be celebrated in the end of February or in the start of March for which the local district has geared up preparations.
Provincial minister Rana Mashhood has also confirmed the decision.
Instead of ensuring precautionary measures, provincial information minister Mujtaba Sujha-ur-Rehman has given free advice to the people to avoid going on motorbikes on the Basant day.
On the other hand, citizens expressed resentment and said that the innocent locals are going to be slaughtered again by the stings of kites.
Religious scholars have also bashed the government and demanded ban on the festival at earliest.
Kite flying was banned in the province after Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Amendment Bill was passed in 2009 that forbids manufacture and sale of kites.
However, at least 34 people have been fallen prey to the Basant whereas more than 2500 have sustained severe injuries in five years.
