Hamid Khan felt entire party was against him: analysis
Senior analyst says party members were speaking in murmurs against Hamid even during hearing
LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Analysing senior lawyer Hamid Khan’s decision to decline from pursuing the Panama Leaks case before Supreme Court on behalf of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Habib Akram and Haroon Rasheed agreed on the program ‘Khabar Yeh Hai’ that there was serious opposition for Hamid Khan in the party.
Habib Akram said during the program that according to his sources, while Hamid Khan was still pleading his case before the court, the PTI leaders sitting in the front rows of the courtroom were talking in murmurs against Hamid Khan. He said that Hamid Khan was hearing those murmurs right when he was pleading his case before the honourable judges.
Hamid Khan had declined from further pursuing the case on PTI’s behalf yesterday (Friday) citing the ‘undue criticism’ on him from certain quarters of media. He had also complained before the party chairman Imran Khan, according to PTI sources, that there were PTI leaders working against him and that they were not happy with him pleading the case.
Senior analyst and reporter, Habib Akram, said that it was hard for him to believe that Hamid Khan had left the case just because of criticism in media. He said that Hamid Khan had bravely fought some of the most historic cases in Pakistan, including the then deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry’s case in 2007 against Pervez Musharraf’s government. He said that Hamid Khan was one of the most prominent lawyers of Pakistan and a lawyer leader at the same time. He said that leaving a case just because of media criticism was unbecoming of Hamid Khan.
Habib recalled how Hamid Khan was bitterly criticised by rival faction during the lawyers’ movement for the restoration of judiciary. He said that Hamid Khan was not the kind of person who would leave a case because of criticism. He revealed that it was the party criticism that led him to make the decision.
Haroon Rasheed said that the reason behind Hamid Khan’s decision was mainly due to the opposition within the party. He added that Hamid Khan has strong opposition within the party, and though the opposition is for another reason, it is quite strong and vocal against him.
