India again violates ceasefire along LoC, opens fire in Chamb Sector
Pakistan Army responded befittingly and returned the fire to silence Indian guns.
BHIMBER (Web Desk) - India yet again violated ceasefire along Line of Control (LoC) and resorted to unprovoked firing in Chamb Sector near Bhimber in Azad Kashmir on early Saturday morning, Dunya News reported.
"Pakistani troops befittingly responded to Indian unprovoked firing" which started at 4:00 am (2300 GMT) and continued for four hours in Bhimber sector on the Pakistani side of the border, a military statement said.
No loss of life was reported so far.
Tension between India and Pakistan has been high since an Indian security forces crackdown on protesting Kashmiris in Occupied Kashmir began in July. Relations worsened in September after militants killed 18 soldiers in a raid on an Indian army base, an attack New Delhi blames on Pakistan.
India said on Thursday it had carried out "surgical strikes" in Azad Kashmir, a claim that Pakistan condemned and denied.
On the same day, two Pakistani soldiers were martyred when Indian forces opened unprovoked firing in Bandala sector and Poonch’s Batal sector.
"This is a dangerous moment for the region," Pakistan’s Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi told AFP after meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at UN headquarters in New York.
Ban Friday offered to act as a mediator between New Delhi and Islamabad to defuse the tensions.
