Summary 25 candidates of MPhil have passed the written test on merit, according to sources
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Fact-finding committee of Punjab University, formed on Dunya News report, has concluded that Institute of Communication Studies allotted grace marks to candidates who appeared in admission exams of Ph.D and MPhil leading to cancellation of admittance until 2017.
Taking action on Dunya News report that was published on August 30, Vice Chancellor of the university had formed a committee that was tasked with probing the news report.
In the latest development in the issue, it was reported that admissions have been nullified and a fresh process will be initiated the coming year.
Reportedly, not a single Ph.D candidate passed the written test prompting the department to allot 20 grace marks to some which pushed them to interview table.
However, besides the fact that various students had passed entry test for MPhil, both professional and research tracks, the institute gave six grace marks each to some of the failing students and called them for personal interviews.
Sources privy to the department have stated that the candidates who passed the written examination without reliance on grace marks and were declared admissible by the interviewing panel would be granted admissions only.
According to the report of Roznama Dunya, 13 candidates of MPhil professional track while 12 candidates of research track passed the test on merit.
It should be noted here that it is the first time in the history of Punjab University that Ph.D and MPhil admissions of a department have been cancelled after a merit-related controversy.
