KARACHI (Dunya News) – Several areas of Karachi are witnessing long power outages out of faulty feeders and roads are inundated in different localities adding to the issues of locals during monsoon, reported Thursday.

In the latest of woes for Karachiites, Saadi Garden of Saadi Town was inundated after monsoon shower flooded nearby drain on Wednesday night.

Residents of the town helped themselves and no intervention by the administration was seen until late morning. However, according to them the situation could worsen if the administration does not show utmost seriousness in the issue.

Commissioner paid a visit to Saadi Town and reviewed the situation. Locals complained about administration’s slackness and demanded immediate solution to the issue.

It should be noted here that around three years ago, residents of the town had borne financial losses in an issue of the same kind.

On the other hand, new information that has come to light suggests that K-Electric authorities hid facts from the people after questions regarding power outages were thrown at them ever since the first monsoon shower.


Stagnated water could cause a disease spread: experts


It has been revealed by sources that at least 812 power feeders had tripped on Tuesday but K-Electric told the people about 200 faults only.

Sources also said that not once in the past 100 years such a huge number of feeders tripped in one night.

Earlier this week, first monsoon downpour left different Karachi roads and streets of several localities’ waterlogged while K-Electric customers had to live without power for over 15 hours.

Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah ordered immediate release of Rs 200 million to clear drains of the city before further monsoons showers trouble the locals.

Earlier this week, Chief Minister House and Governor House had also lost power supply after Karachi saw its first shower after at least two years of monsoon hiatus.
