Summary PSP holds party's first ever rally at Bagh-e-Jinnah in Karachi, attended by hundreds
KARACHI (Dunya News) - Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) leader Mustafa Kamal addressed the party s first ever rally held at Bagh-e-Jinnah in Karachi on Sunday and paid emphasis to the distribution of authority to the grassroot level, adding that a door-to-door campaign will be launched in order to increase awareness in the people, reported Dunya News.
He said that till local bodies are not empowered in the country, progress cannot be made. "Even if 20 provinces are made in the country while maintaining the same system, it shall be of no use", he added. He said that the people of Pakistan should be given the power to make their choices. Referring towards the strengthening of Union Councils, Kamal said that authoritative UC members are asking for strengthening of the local bodies system.
He said that corruption in the country has not been curtailed since the last 60 years. "If Union Councils have authority, they can be as effective as NAB (National Accountability Bureau)", he said. He said that millions of rupees are mismanaged every year under the veil of developmental funds.
He said that the foundation of a historic day is being laid, which will be remembered for a long time. He added that if democracy is to prevail in the country, it needs to reach out to the local people instead of being restricted to certain offices in Islamabad. He stated that the local communities need to benefit from the system the most as the rights of the people need to be distributed among them.
"Cannot depict patriotism if we are unable to provide clean drinking water to the people" he said. Kamal added that it is necessary to ensure that basic facilities are being provided to the people through Union Councils (UCs) as it is not the duty of Members of National Assembly (MNAs) and Member of Provincial Assemblies (MPAs) to provide grassroot level facilities to the people as they are there for legislation.
He stated that Karachi will be made even more glorious than it was ever before if his party gets a chance to serve the people. He said that the city will be once again home to intellects, patriots and there will be no divide on the basis of language. "We will make Karachi a city free of RAW agents", he stated. He added that corruption can be curtailed through the steps chalked out by his party.
He stated that the party is breaking records as it was able to cater hundreds of thousands of people within 31 days of its formation. He said that the world is witnessing for the first time that a political party in Pakistan is organising a rally where the party had no flag of its own but there were flags of Pakistan all around. He congratulated the participants on setting these records.
