Summary PPP Chairman says TORs introduced by PM's investigation commission will have no value

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday stated that the Terms of References (TORs) in regards to the investigation of the Panama Leaks must be decided by the Parliament as the ones decided by the government or the commission introduced by the government will not have much credibility, reported Dunya News.

According to the party’s spokesperson, PPP’s parliamentary committee met with the party chairman in Islamabad and updated him in regards to the consultation process about the Panama Leaks’ investigation with the other political parties. Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Syed Khurshid Shah stated that meetings have been held with representatives of different political parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamat-e-Islami (JI), Awami National Party (ANP) and Qaumi Watan Party regarding the investigation process. He added that the consultation process shall be expanded to include other parties as well.

PPP Chairman laid emphasis that the matter needs to be brought to the Parliament’s forum after consulting all political parties. He stated that the TORs introduced by the investigation commission named by the Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and the government will have no value as such since the PM and his family have been named in the Panama Papers. Bilawal said that keeping this very argument in view, PPP suggests that the Terms of Reference regarding the investigation be decided by the Parliament after debate is done over them by the political parties.
