POKHARA (Dunya News) - Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has informally met Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Nepal on Thursday.
The two leaders are in Nepal s Pokhara for ongoing South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) conference.
However, there has been no official report or confirmation from the Indian side on the possibility of the meeting.
Earlier it was reported that Swaraj and Aziz will meet formally on SAARC sidelines today. This is the first casual or otherwise sitting between two sides after a long break since the terrorist attack on the Pathankot airbase on January 2 in India.
The National Security Advisors of both states were in touch with each other and New Delhi wants to see a “credible” action from Pakistan against Pathankot attackers, before the two sides can take a step forward.
Political analysts believe that this would provide an opportunity for the two sides to exchange notes on the road ahead.
They are of the opinion that Sartaj Aziz would use the opportunity to break the ice and prepare grounds for better relations as Sharif and Modi are both interested in continuation of the peace talks that were initiated as a result of Modi’s visit to the Sharif’s residence in Lahore last Christmas.
Sartaj Aziz has taken the initiative as he will be handing over the invitation from Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif to PM Narendra Modi for the next level of SAARC summit due in November.
He will be meeting foreign ministers of all SAARC countries to extend formal invitations for the 19th SAARC Summit that will be hosted by Pakistan.
