Govt dissolves PEPCO: Pervaiz Ashraf

Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) has been dissolved because it was suffering huge losses. During a press conference in Islamabad, the minister said that PEPCO was suffering deficit of Rs 250 billion annually. He said that now, distribution companies would be responsible for their issues and would be independent but a Steering Committee would be made to look after these companies. He said that 2 percent increase in power tariff was necessary. He said that Provinces would be consulted to deal with the issue of power theft. He said that it was directed to re-organize the public organizations.
