Karachi police need 'push' to secure lives of polio workers

Summary Police and administration had vowed a fool-proof plan for volunteers' protection

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Police deployed at security of polio workers in a three-day drive apparently need ‘push’ to shoulder their responsibilities as vehicle did not self-start, Dunya News reported Wednesday.

In Gulistan Johar, personnel who were appointed with polio workers’ team for security were left behind when government vehicle needed a push start.

On February 15, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad had inaugurated the campaign at Red Crescent office in Clifton.

Police and administration had vowed a fool-proof plan for volunteers’ protection.

The drive aims at vaccination in as many as 188 union councils (UC) of six Karachi districts.

Around 21.66 lac children will be vaccinated until today. At least 6,220 volunteers are taking part in the campaign.

A three-day campaign was also launched in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and 13 districts in Balochistan.
