Summary Senate believes in giving students right to form unions, JI chief

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Jamaat e Islami chief senator Siraj-ul-Haq has written a letter to Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak demanding to conduct elections of students’ unions across the province.

Siraj writes that the Senate is of the view that students must have the right to form unions, as Quaid-e-Azam believed students to be his first line of defence. "Students are the nucleus of the major progress occurring around the globe," he said. "The youth comprise 60 percent of Pakistan’s total population and their inclusion in the national stream of development will ensure prosperity."

Further adding, he wrote that it is important if we are to cater extremism that students choose their own representatives. To take into consideration the views of the aware and educated members of the youth is a necessity as the government shall not try to curb the constitutional rights of our country’s youth. He has pressed the government to take measures regarding the expansion of constitutional traditions across the youth and take lead from other provinces in this matter.
