Summary PPP staged symbolic walkout from NA, Khurshid Shah smells some hidden objective behind AJK issue

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Monday strongly protested the killing of a party worker in Kotli during the election campaign of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) election campaign. The party staged a symbolic walkout from the assembly and Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah said there seemed to be some hidden objective behind the environment being created in AJK, reported Dunya News.

PPP members entered the house convened by Speaker NA Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and staged strong protest against the killing of the worker in Kotli. They also raised slogans against the government. Opposition Leader said a PPP worker was killed in AJK as the government is trying to control the situation with the help of force. “Had Model Town incident’s 14 victims been provided justice, this wouldn’t have happened in Kotli”, said Shah.

Khurshid Shah said that the incidents of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) protest and the AJK clash were clearly acts of violence. “Things like ‘clipping the wings of PIA employees’ were said. These people have become dictators”, said the opposition leader. He said that a peaceful rally was attacked in Kotli and the federal ministers are defending it.

Shah suspected some hidden motives behind the ‘environment being created’ in AJK. He said that the government is trying to steal people’s mandate through force. Giving up on the reconciliatory policy, PPP members staged a symbolic walkout of the NA.

Responding to the allegations, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid came down hard upon PPP. He held AJK Prime Minister (PM) responsible for whatever happened in the rally. He said that the government would accept Khurshid Shah as the arbiter; AJK PM Chaudhry Abdul Majeed may bring his case to the Opposition Leader and the government would accept whatever Khurshid Shah decides.
