Summary Pakistan ranks first in South Asia due to extraordinary improvement in accountability

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan has ranked first in South Asian region in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) score released by the Transparency International (TI) on Wednesday, reported Dunya News.

Pakistan, once ranked in the top five most corrupt countries in the world now does not even come in the first 50 countries in the ranking. The report by TI says Pakistan has shown improvements in the region for accountability surpassing China, India, Iran, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

The CPI covered perceptions of public sector corruption in 168 countries of the world.

Pakistan was ranked 126 out of 168 countries in 2014. This has improved nine degrees and in 2015 Pakistan has been ranked 117 in the world in the report.

Experts say non-tolerance policy on corruption has improved the situation in Pakistan. This has also increased the confidence of international institutions on Pakistan.

All the neighbouring countries of Pakistan either did not improve their score in CPI or have decreased in the index.
