Afghan president phones PM Nawaz, assures enhanced security

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday phoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and briefed him on the development following the attack on Pakistan consulate in Afghanistan, Dunya News reported.

According to details, the Afghanistan president condemned the attack and assured PM Nawaz of enhanced security. Ghani assured additional security for Pakistani diplomatic staff.

PM Nawaz responded by saying terrorists are enemy of both the countries and both countries have to engage in collective effort to root out terrorism.

Earlier, Afghan president Ashraf Ghani, Foreign Minister and Interim Defence Minister phoned the Incharge of the Pakistan embassy to condole over the incident and assured a full investigation of the incident.

The Afghan president said that those responsible for attack will be brought to justice.

Jalalabad’s governor Attaullah Khugiani’s spokesperson said Pakistan’s consulate is safe while the area has been cleared after killing the terrorists.

As per the Afghan officials, as many as three terrorists hid themselves at house in front of the consulate and kept firing following the attack.

As per the foreign media, a suicide blast took place outside the consulate first and then terrorists started firing. No terrorist outfit has claimed responsibility of the attack yet.

The attack on Pakistan consulate on Wednesday left 10 including 3 terrorists dead.
