LAHORE (Dunya News) – Faction of visually impaired people on Tuesday has continued protest against the government on second day, blocking Metro bus track.

On January 11, negotiations between District Coordination Officer (DCO) and the protesters were successful. The visually challenged persons ended sit-in and returned to their hotels.

However, a faction of the protesters continued protest despite the dialogue. The resented group has continued the demonstration today.

Traffic remained standstill for hours as differently-abled people demonstrated around Kalma Chowk and surrounding roads on Monday. Metro bus service remained suspended for around 12 hours yesterday while it is shut today as well.

Late in the night, talks between the protesters and DCO Captain (r) Muhammad Usman and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations Wing Haider Ashraf ended in success. The protesters agreed to end the sit-in conditionally.

Lahore DCO assured the protesters that all their rightful demands would be met. The official has called the protesters today in his office.

The demonstrators had protested against the Punjab government and chanted loud slogans. They demanded employment opportunities and called for end of discrimination against the visually impaired persons.

They demanded contractual employees to be given permanent jobs and fulfilment of 3% quota promise.

Meanwhile, students protested against a local university at Canal Road for degree accreditation issues which also halted the traffic for hours.
