At least four militants attacked Punjab's Pathankot airbase today

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Office (FO) on Saturday has condemned attack on India airbase in the early hours today that claimed lives of two security personnel.

At least four militants attacked Punjab’s Pathankot airbase today. The gunmen, dressed in army uniforms entered the armed force’s camp at around 3:30 am.

The Foreign Office stated that Pakistan strongly condemns attack on Indian airbase. A statement issued offers condolences to the grieving families in the neighbouring country.

Department dealing with the foreign affairs stated that Pakistan is willing to collaborate with India for a common cause of weeding-out extremism. On the other hand, Pakistan has achieved major success in war on terror since the start of large-scale army operation in militant-hit tribal areas.

It should be mentioned here that Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi had visited Pakistan around a week ago. It came as a surprise for Pakistan and the international bodies concerned as Modi dropped by Lahore on his way back to New Delhi from Afghanistan.

Modi and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting that stretched over more than an hour time in Jati Umra, Pakistani premier’s personal residence. It happened to be Nawaz Sharif’s birthday also.

Modi had wished his counterpart on December 25 in a social media message.

Pakistan and India have shared a rough history since separation in 1947. In the recent past, Modi and Nawaz met on different occasions including Paris climate summit 2015, Saarc 2014 in Kathmandu and in Russian Ufa.

India has practiced blame game in the past by alleging Pakistan of every terror attack ever happened. The Indian authorities are not used to verifying identities of the attackers before pointing fingers at Pakistan.

The practice seems to have deterred after Modis surprise visit as not many eyes looked at Pakistan after Punjab airbase attack today. However, exceptions are always there.
