Summary

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Tuesday said that the Supreme Court (SC) is showing restraint against the uncivilized criticism of its decrees from some circles. During the course of hearing of petitions against some clauses of the 18th amendment, Ahmed Raza Kasuri contended that under Article 68, the judges conduct could not be taken up in the Assembly and thus the parliamentary body is against the Constitution. Justice Ramday said that in democratic societies, the people formed parliamentary bodies. The CJ said the court knew that the law had not been annulled on the concept of basis structure and the laws were declared null and void on being in conflict with the Constitution and basic rights. Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday asked Salman Raja to dwell on facts, as court is fed up with discussing theory and rulings.Justice Ramday warned if the eight-member committee jettisons the recommendations by the judges, then it would be difficult to save the honour.
