Summary Year 2015 was marked by a decline in violence due to Karachi operation by Rangers
(Web Desk) – The city of lights, Karachi, was subject to a lot of violence in the year 2015. 75 attacks of home-made bombs and crackers took place. 145 injuries took place as a result of the bombings in addition to 13 casualties suffered by Rangers and Police. Here is a monthly breakdown of every incident of violence that took place in the metropolitan city:
January:
15 attacks in areas of Lyari, Behm Puri and Malir. Attacks perpetrated with help of grenades and ‘tennis ball’ bombs.
Casualties: 3 including a woman and minor child
Injuries: 35 including people from Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA)
February:
Attack on private school by means of home-made crackers in addition to grenade attacks in Lyari by unidentified persons.
Injuries: 14 persons
March:
Surge observed in terrorists’ activities as citizens are targeted city-wide.
-Bus of special security unit of police targeted near poultry farm.
-Motorcyle bomb attack on Bohra community centre in Araam Bagh.
-Suicide attack on Rangers’ mobile unit near Shahrah-e- Noor Jahan.
-Shop targeted with remote control bomb.
Injuries: 28 persons
Casualties: 2 personnel each from Rangers and Police
April:
Grenade attack on Lyari.
Injuries: 5 injured
May:
Grenade attack on Lyari among other 10 attacks. Brother of MPA Javed Nagori slain in an attack.
Injuries: 28 persons
June/ July:
4 grenade attacks on Malir City and Lyari areas.
August:
Mortar attacks in Pehlwan Goth.
September:
Spate of grenade and home-made attacks in areas of Lyari. During a police raid, Farhan alias Pehlwan blows himself up in a suicide attack.
Casualties: 1 people
Injuries: 7 people
October:
2 grenade attacks in Lyari.
Injuries: 2 people
November:
-Home-made cracker thrown at Counter-Terrorism building in Saudabad.
-Rocket and grenade attack on Shah Waliullah road. Remote control device attack on Lee-market.
-Attack on Imambargah in North Nazimabad.
Casualtie(s): 1 person
Injuries: 24 persons
December:
1 grenade attack in Lyari.
Injuries: 1 person
