KARACHI (Web Desk) – An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain and other party workers in a case pertaining to inciting speeches against the intelligence agencies, Dunya News reported.
The court has ordered police officials to present the accused in court on January 2, 2016.
The case against as many as 200 MQM leaders and workers including Altaf Hussain, Farooq Sattar, Rashid Godil, Rehan Hashmi, Khawaja Izharul Hassan, Waseem Akhtar, Aminul Haq and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui were filed at different police stations.
Non-bailable arrested warrants were issued due to absence of the accused. Only Rauf Siddiqui has been granted bail in the case.
Altaf Hussain has been living in self-imposed exile in Britain since 1992 military crackdown in Karachi and obtained British citizenship a decade later.
From his base in London, he has been a towering figure within the party, addressing massive street rallies attended by tens of thousands in Karachi through a loudspeaker connected to a telephone.
Recently, several cases were registered against him at different police stations under terrorism laws over a speech criticising the military establishment.
