Summary A contempt of court case was launched against the police officials for besieging high court twice
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday has indicted police Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Haider Jamali among others in contempt of court case.
The court has stated that torture of journalists in court premises is not forgivable. The high court has rejected sworn apologies of the police officials.
The police officials who have been indicted along with the IG are Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain, Saddar Superintendent of Police (SP) Zeeshan Shafique, former SP Raees Abdul Ghani, South DIG Jamil Ahmed, West DIG Feroze Shah, Legal AIG Faisal Bashir, SSU Incharge Major (r) Saleem, West Headquarters SP Tahir Noorani, SI Jahangir Mahar and AIG Ghulam Haider Thebo.
All the indicted officials have denied the charges. The hearing has been adjourned until December 23.

On May 23, Special Security Unit (SSU) of Sindh Police led an operation in the court premises to arrest Pakistan People’s Party’s disenchanted member and former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza. Journalists who were covering the big news of the day were also tortured and manhandled.
