ECP suspends LB polls in Sanghar due to security threats

SANGHAR (Dunya News) – In the wake of security threats, the upcoming local bodies election due on December 16 in Sanghar was once again postponed by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) today (Thursday).

The returning officer also sent a letter to ECP, demanding Rangers deployment at sensitive areas for the re-polls in the district. The letter sought security personnel deputation due to continuous threats and brawls.

Further, clash between Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) ahead of local body (LB) elections claimed three lives.

The clash left several persons wounded while as many as six vehicles were partially destroyed. Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah took notice of the incident and summoned a report from Sindh Police Inspector General (IG).

Rangers reached at the scene to counter the tensions. The Chief Minister, on the other hand ordered the law enforcers to ensure peace and control the situation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the election was suspended in Sanghar due to apprehensions of political clashes during second phase of local bodies polls. The local administration has ensured all the arrangements and has asked for deployment of troops.
