KARACHI (Dunya News) - Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Monday termed Pakistan Air Force (PAF) one of the world’s best defense force and said that the armed forces are fully prepared to meet any challenge to national security.

He was addressing a gathering after witnessing Fire Power demonstration of Pakistan Air Force at Sonmiani range.

PM Nawaz pointed out that the threats faced by the country are not traditional and these should be viewed in the global and regional environment.

He reaffirmed the unwavering determination of the country to combat terrorism and said PAF has a key role in counterterrorism operations with close cooperation of Army.

Appreciating the combat readiness and professionalism of the air force, he said the significance of air power and its role in achieving strategic objectives has increased manifold in contemporary era.

The premier stated that the bravery, professionalism and enthusiasm of our air warriors clearly reflect that PAF is second to tone.

The PM said that JF-17 Thunder fighter jet is our national pride and assured that the government will extend all possible assistance to augment the PAF capability. He was confident that it will continue to live up to the expectations of the nation.

PM Nawaz also met the mother of martyred pilot Maryam Mukhtar at the ceremony.

He said the entire nation is proud of Maryam Mukhtar, who laid down her life for strengthening the defense of the country.

PM Nawaz reached Karachi in the early hours today. Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Sindh Ishrat-ul-Ibad received him at the airport. The PM will chair a top level meeting on law and order situation in the city.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali has accompanied the PM during the visit. Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif is also expected to attend the meeting.

DG Rangers, Major General Bilal Akbar will brief the meeting about the progress made in the ongoing operation in Karachi against criminals and terrorists. Important decisions are expected to be taken today.

The participants will discuss delay in granting Pakistan Rangers additional authority in the Karachi operation.

The meeting will be held at the Sindh Governor House. Sindh Government will also present its report on the ongoing targeted operation.
