Woman suspect in California shooting got visa from Pakistan: US State Department
A Muslim couple had stormed a facility for disabled persons in San Bernardino
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Spokesperson for United States (US) Department of State Mark C Toner on Friday has said that woman involved in California shooting, Tashfeen Malik acquired visa from Pakistan.
On December 3, a Muslim couple, Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik had stormed a facility for disabled persons in San Bernardino and killed as many as 14 people. The attackers were killed later in a police chase.
Toner, in a daily media briefing said that the department could not disclose information about the couple at this moment however, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is thoroughly examining the incident.
The department did reveal that Malik was not a US citizen while her husband was a registered national. Malik got her visa from Pakistan however, the authorities concerned have not been approached by the US department in the matter until filing of this report.
On the other hand, several reports suggest that Farook visited Saudi Arabia earlier and returned back married with Malik. The Department of State stated, “we do not track our nationals so cannot clarify whether Farook visited Saudi or not.”
San Bernardino shooting is the most deadliest incident in US since December 2012. At least 22 were reported wounded while 14 lives were lost. A third suspect was caught running near the attack site however, police could not say if he was involved.
