Summary PTI chairman promises to end ethnic tensions in Karachi, meeting started late due to low attendance

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has on Sunday said that the progress in Dubai expedited because of the tensions in Karachi. He promised to bring the ethnic tensions in Karachi to an end. PTI’s public meeting in Lyari started a bit late at the Kakri Ground because of low attendance in the beginning, reported Dunya News.

Addressing the public meeting in Kakri Ground, Imran Khan said that he was warned about the security threats and to avoid addressing the public meeting. He said that he was told by some to avoid addressing a large public meeting. “But I had had enough of these small corner meetings. I decided to hold a massive public meeting here. And see, it’s a huge crowd here”, said Khan.

PTI Chairman said that Islam is based on justice. “This is why Arabs rose with unity. It is must for the progress of a nation that justice is served”, he added.

Imran said that the best formula to cause infighting in a nation is to create divides among people on various lines. He said that Karachi was also divided on the basis of Sindh, Urdu and other other languages. He said that seed of hatred was sown in Karachi 30 years back. “Had the wealth of Karachi not been looted and sent abroad, Karachi would have been today where Dubai is”, he said. PTI Chairman said that the secret behind Dubai’s progress is that the wealth of Pakistan and Karachi was looted and laundered abroad. He added that Rs. 430 billion were sent abroad from Karachi during the last 2 years. He said that trying the failed again and again is the recipe to destruction and thus the people don’t want to try the same old politicians now.

Talking about the ethnic divisions in Pakistan, Imran said that the slogans of Punjabi, Sindhi, Muhajir and others were raised to serve the interests of certain groups and communities. “We all need to think, why do we vote someone who has no stakes in this country? The people of Lyari don’t even have clean drinking water while the leaders even bathe with mineral water”, said Imran.

PTI Chairman appealed to the people of Lyari not to vote for politicians who keep their property and money abroad. He said that those ruling the country in turns cannot change the fate of the nation. He asked the details of the assets of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former President Asif Ali Zardari and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain before joining politics and now. He said that we don’t want a Pakistan where there are separate parameters of justice for the rich and the poor.

However, PTI’s public meeting faced a lot of difficulties today. PTI leaders seemed worried due to low attendance of the workers. Party leaders kept pleading before the people of Lyari to come out of their houses and attend the public meeting. PTI leader Naz Baloch kept requesting the people on microphone to join the public meeting.

Imran Khan also had to change his route after reaching Five Star Chorangi. He wanted the ground to be filled with workers and supporters when he arrives at the venue of the public meeting but it didn’t happen and finally he reached the ground to address the crowd no matter how low their attendance was.

It is pertinent to mention here that Lyari has always been a stronghold of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) but the party workers are unhappy with the leadership since the death of Benazir Bhutto. This is why PTI has hopes of filling the space created in Lyari due to the absence of the support for PPP. It is yet to be seen whether the people of Lyari accept PTI as an alternative for PPP or not.
