SHC to indict IG Sindh, officers in contempt of court case next week

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh High Court (SHC) is likely to indict as many as 14 policemen including Inspector General (IG) Sindh in contempt of court case in coming week.

The hearing of the case was held in SHC during which the officers once again pleaded for mercy by submitting written apology. The court refused to accept the plea and directed the officials to submit the apology in the office.

Advocate General Sindh told the court that he saw the incident on TV and was surprised to see police performance. He said that Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Qaim Ali Shah wanted to take action against the incident but could not due to court’s proceedings.

The Advocate General also stated in the court that Major Saleem was leading the masked officials in plain clothes. He further demanded the CDs of the footage pertaining to the whole incident while the court stated that the department has already given the data twice.

The Additional IG was further given show cause notice for not filing reply in the court.

Subsequently, the court has adjourned the hearing till December 3.

Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Haider Jamali and others were charged in contempt of court case for the siege of the High Court’s building and torture on the former home minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza’s guards and media men by Commandos of the Special Security Unit (SSU) on March 23.

The policemen had also smashed several parked vehicles and snatched cameras from journalists.
