PM Nawaz: Nation took revenge from those creating hurdles in development

KHANEWAL (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated M-4 section of Khanewal-Multan Motorway today (Saturday), Dunya News reported.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lashed out at political opponents, stating that nation has taken revenge from those creating hurdle in country’s development through their votes in recently held local government elections.

PM Nawaz has also advised Chief Ministers of all provinces to ensure that sugarcane is sold at fixed prices.  

He regretted that the process of development was halted after 1999 and the country was plunged into many problems including load shedding and terrorism.

The premier said motorway projects in different parts of the country are being completed with full transparency.

Development of these projects will ensure fast track development of the country and it would also ensure safe and fast journey for commuters, he added.

Nawaz Sharif said motorway and road infrastructure is also now being developed in Balochistan. He said state of the art airport will be built in Gwadar besides the development of the deep sea port there.

He said besides motorways and metro bus projects, the government has also launched several projects to overcome the energy crisis.

PM Nawaz said it is utmost effort of the government to provide cheap electricity to the consumers and vowed to end the power outages in the next two and a half years.

The M-4 section, a part of Karachi-Lahore Motorway project, has been completed at a cost of about Rs 13 billion. It will benefit the economy in terms of surge in employment and business opportunities.

The 56km-long section includes four interchanges, seventeen bridges and twenty-eight subways. It will drastically reduce the traffic congestion particularly heavy vehicular traffic in Multan city and will serve as a bypass to the city.

The proposed facility will also facilitate traffic in Balochistan commuting through the National Highway.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in March this year laid the foundation stone of a motorway project between Karachi and Lahore which will be completed in four phases.

In the first phase, a 139-km-long six-lane motorway between Karachi and Hyderabad is being constructed at a cost of Rs 36 billion. The project, expected be completed in 30 months, would replace the Superhighway.

The second phase of the M-9 project will link Hyderabad and Sukkur and the third phase will reduce travel time between Sukkur and Multan. The last phase of the project will link Multan with Lahore.
