PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday said they are trying to make irreversible reforms in the police department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so that no future government can use it in their favour, Dunya News reported.

The PTI chief oversaw the reporting room at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) headquarter and inaugurated the public liaison committee in the police lines. Talking to the media afterwards, Khan said when the police stations become center of oppression then the people do not trust them.

He said the problems cannot be solved until the police are made apolitical. “There’s rarely a PTI worker left in Sindh against whom a First Information Report (FIR) is not lodged”, he said. “In what democracy the police are used to win elections.”

Imran Khan said the police would be encouraged to break the law when they are made to do so, adding that the people of Punjab fear the police stations.

He said attempts were made to transfer an ‘honest’ District Police Officer (DPO) from Mianwali before election, adding that they had to take the issue to the Election Commission to stop the transfer.

The PTI chief said that the attendance rate of teachers in schools in the province is 90% as compared to the past’s 50%. He said all provinces have to learn from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in this regard.

Imran Khan said people’s issues will now be resolved at their doorsteps and the police will help. He said graduates are coming forth to be recruited in the police force, adding that such reforms are being made in the police department which cannot be reversed.
