Summary Nandipur power plant is functioning from October 24th this year, the Minister said.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said that complete investigation report of Nandipur power project has been prepared.

Addressing a press conference along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid, Khawaja Asif said total cost of the project is over Rs 58 billion and out of this amount, Rs 51 billion have so far been spent on the project.

He said claims of spending Rs 84 billion on the project are ‘baseless.’

“Wrong statistics had been presented regarding the cost of the project, and its shutting down,” he added.

The Minister said that generation capacity of the project is 430 megawatts and the plant is functioning from 24th of October this year onward.

The operation of 425MW Nandipur plant, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on May 30, is shrouded in mystery as the cost of the project was almost doubled without any logical reason.

Last month, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said that the investigations into the Nandipur probe has completed. He said that the first phase of probe covered its stages from approval to inauguration.

The second phase of the probe, he said would include reasons for increase in cost and payments.
