Sindh LB polls: Badin, Sanghar DROs reject ECP accusations

Summary The meeting reviewed the security situation in five districts of Sindh.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A high level meeting of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was held today in Islamabad headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza.

The meeting was attended by chief secretary, IG Sindh, DPOs and authorities of provincial home ministry.

Returning officers (ROs) of Badin, Sanghar, Umerkot, Tharparkar and Nowshehro Feroz also participated in the meeting.

The meeting reviewed the security situation in five districts of Sindh.

Sardar Raza said that ECP has received the complaints of political parties and candidates whereas all federal and provincial departments are committed to help ECP in making elections transparent.

He stated that all the parties and their candidates will be provided with equal opportunities.

He also summoned reply from District Returning Officers (DROs) of Badin and Sanghar on allegations of biasness and changing the polling scheme.

However; both the DROs rejected the accusations.

Sources report that ECP is considering replacing the DROs with officers from the federation. The final decision regarding the substitution is expected today after knowing the stance of chief secretary and home secretary therefore in case of the change, more time will be needed to conduct the elections.
