ECP bans celebration after election victory, proposes LB polls timing till 5pm

Summary ECP has sought 40 companies of Army to maintain law and order situation.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan on (Friday) declared 960 polling stations as high sensitive and 3112 as sensitive for second phase of the local body (LB) elections in Punjab.

A meeting presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza was held in a private club of Lahore to review the arrangements of second phase of LB polls.

The meeting was attended by chief secretary, home secretary, IG Punjab, DPOs, CCPO Lahore and other relevant authorities.

Atleast 7797 polling stations were declared sensitive in the meeting whereas it was told that approximately 11869 polling booths will be formed in 12 districts of the province.

ECP has sought 40 companies of Army to maintain law and order situation. Chief Election Commissioner said that it is not possible to deploy Army on all the polling station however; they will patrol in the premises of sensitive booths.

It also banned the celebration of election victory and proposed the poll timing in second phase till 5 p.m.

While addressing the meeting, Sardar Raza said that the first phase was completed successfully and hopes that the electoral phase in the second phase will be concluded in an effective manner.

He said that governments change but organizations remain intact.

He stated that Election Commission is committed to conduct transparent and impartial elections whereas all the candidates will be provided equal opportunities in the polls.
