KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Wednesday has formed a central election cell in Nine Zero’s Khursheed Begum Secretariat to monitor the upcoming third phase of local bodies election in Karachi.

The last phase of LB polls in Sindh will be concluded after holding elections in Karachi on December 5.

According to election cell’s in-charge Shahid Latif, the MQM workers are ardently working in the cell to inspect all the preparations and the results of LB elections.

Meanwhile, Amin-ul-Haq stated that MQM is a public party as it is representing the residents of Karachi and wants to resolve their matters at any cost. He said that MQM is the only party that can assure the peace in the metropolis.

He further added that MQM lives in the hearts of Karachiites.

The leaders of Rabita Committee are also performing duties in election cell.

All political parties are eyeing mayorship of Karachi as they have nominated strong candidates to contest for the post. Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Waseem Akhtar is contesting for Chairman in Line Area and he is also being believed to be a strong candidate for mayorship.

Candidates for deputy mayor include MQM’s Rehan Hashmi and Zireen Majeed among others.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) Karachi chief, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman belonging to North Nazimabad is contesting for mayorship against MQM’s Akhtar among other contenders. Ali Zaidi is representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in majorship candidacy.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is likely to nominate Karachi division’s president, Najmi Aalim for mayorship. On other hand, Awami National Party (ANP) has not put forth a name for mayorship yet.
