ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The election for new Speaker of the National Assembly will be held tomorrow (Monday). For this purpose, the Assembly session has been convened tomorrow morning at nine.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for the Speakership Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has filed his nomination papers with the Secretary, National Assembly Secretariat in Islamabad today (Sunday).
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Shafqat Mahmood and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) candidate Dr. G. G. Jamal have also submitted their nomination papers in this regard.
According to the schedule of the elections, nomination papers can be filed by twelve noon, to be followed by their scrutiny.
A member who has been nominated can withdraw his candidature any time before the National Assembly proceeds to elect the Speaker.
Talking to newsmen after filing his nomination papers outside Parliament House, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq thanked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the party leadership for nominating him again as PML-N candidate.
He said different political parties, including PPP, JUI (F), PML-F and ANP have assured him to cast votes in his favour. He stated that he is meeting different political parties and political leaders to seek their support.
Ayaz Sadiq said if voted to the slot of the speaker, he will make efforts to conduct the proceedings of the Lower House in a neutral manner and will try to perform even better than his previous term.
To a question, he said almost all the political parties except PTI are ready to cast votes in his favour.
It may be mentioned that the seat had fallen vacant due to disqualification of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq by the Election Tribunal. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has been re-elected as Member of the National Assembly from the same constituency in the recently held by-elections in NA-122.
Earlier, Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif met Ayaz Sadiq at Raiwind residence in Lahore on Saturday.
PM Nawaz applauded the role of Ayaz Sadiq in upholding democratic traditions in the parliament and expressed the confidence that he will maintain those standards in coming years.
