Punjab govt demands army deployment in second phase of LB polls

Summary ECP will hold a key session over second phase of LB polls on November 13.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The provincial government on Saturday has sought Pakistan Army deployment once again during upcoming second phase of local bodies elections due on November 19 in Punjab.

According to Secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Punjab government has written a letter to ECP, asking to depute army personnel at polling stations to avoid any mishap.

However, the ECP officials have stated that appointing army soldiers at every polling station is difficult.

On the other hand, ECP will hold a key session over second phase of LB polls on November 13.

The polling will be held in Khanewal, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot, Sargodha, Mianwali, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, M.B Din, Attock and Jhelum.

Reportedly, a total of 25 million ballot papers will be printed for Punjab while the distribution of ballot papers will begin on November 12.


LB polls phase 1


The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won the majority of seats in Punjab and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has secured most seats in Sindh in the local government elections, according to unofficial results.

The local polls, the first in 10 years, were held on Saturday in the twelve districts including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Pakpattan, Okara, Lodhran, Vehari and Bahawalnagar of central province of Punjab and eight districts including Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Larkana, Shahdadkot and Jacobabad of the southern province of Sindh.
