Karachi: Time of driving license issuance extended for three months

The applicants face problems during driving test as they fail to remember road signs.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Karachi traffic police on Wednesday announced to have extended time of driving license issuance for three-month.

Long queues of license appliers have been seen outside the offices in Nazimabad but several candidates however, failed to pass the test as they are unable to remember traffic signals and signs.

The applicants are thereby, directed to be informed by the rules and regulations of driving as well as road safety.

Earlier on Tuesday, driving license appliers flocked concerned departments after mismanagement on November 2 disturbed the process.

The police had resorted to baton-charge yesterday in order to control the situation. The authorities have extended working hours of the officials in wake of severe rush. The offices will remain opened till 7pm from 8am.

Traffic Police Additional Inspector General (IG) Khadim Hussain Bhatti said that locals applying for learning licenses should come to offices after two days. Two days have been dedicated for issuance of driving licenses and renewals.

The IG said that at least 15 temporary centres would be established in the city. The centres will issue licenses on immediate basis.

Initially the campaign was halted for 15 days but after the protest of citizens which turned violent on interference of police, Sindh Home Minister took notice of the incident and increased the time period to one month.

DIG traffic Ameer Sheikh while increasing staff of the license office also extended the duty hours.

The campaign was due to launch on November 2 but was deferred for cars, motorcycles and other private vehicles whereas dumper, truck, tankers and mini buses have not been exempted from the crackdown.

Traffic police spokesperson has directed the citizens to get their driving license within two weeks.
