KARACHI (Dunya News) – Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Wednesday took notice of the disturbing video showing policeman violently beating a woman in front of her child and summoned the report from Inspector General (IG) Sindh while ordering immediate arrest of the officers involved.

According to details, the police have begun investigating the violent beating of a woman brought in for questioning over theft charges. After Dunya News highlighted the incident, it was revealed that the woman was attacked violently at Gulf Market police station.

The woman identified as Rehana was brought in on suspicion of stealing gold worth several lakh rupees when the police started beating her up violently to extract confession.

The policemen also used abusive language along with the violent attack. As per the police officials, she was arrested on theft charge but was let go after investigation.

After the video surfaced on media, the police raided Clifton Gulf Market and took at least two personnel into custody.

According to details, the disturbing video leaked to the press has exposed how the police handles and treats those accused of minor crimes like theft. This isn’t the first time that the police decided to become complainant, prosecutor and judge by itself.

The police in Pakistan are notorious for its brutality. It is a striking reality that the police have the ability to violently beat an accused into confession of even crimes they did not commit.

The woman was brought in along with her child for questioning and forced to confess to the theft charge. The policeman can be seen violently beating her and uncovered her head in the process, all in front of the boy.

The policeman kept throwing vulgar slangs and abuses towards the woman.

The video has upset the public who are unable to understand under what law the police can behave in this manner and even if the woman was charged with a crime, why wasn’t she presented before the court.
