Tourists stuck in Naran after heavy snowfall

FWO has rescued as many as 50 tourists stuck at Bharwai Bhatta Kundi Road

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General (DG) Amir Aafaq said that food and other necessary items have been sent to the tourists stuck in Naran because of snowfall, adding that the evacuation process will begin at noon on Monday.

Meanwhile, Frontier Works Organization (FWO) has rescued as many as 50 tourists stuck at Bharwai, Bhatta Kundi Road.

The officials became active after the media highlighted the plight of stuck tourists. The National Highway Authority (NHA) has sent the machinery to remove ice from the roads.

The PDMA has dispatched the food and other necessary items for the stuck tourists while seeking helicopter service from the army.

Talking exclusively to Dunya News, Amir Aafaq said that the army helicopter service has been sought to evacuate the tourists, adding that if weather conditions are favourable then the evacuation will began at noon on Monday.

On the other hand, Director Metrological Department Mushtaq Shah said that the snow warning was issued on October 21 and that the current weather condition can go on for next 24 to 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has said that as many as 50 tourists stuck at Bharwai Bhatta Kundi Road have been evacuated by the FWO teams. It said the rescue operations are ongoing in other areas as well.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took the notice of rescuing tourists from Naran and directed the federal institutions to extend assistance to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Dunya News reported.

Reportedly, Secretary Interior contacted KP’s Chief Secretary and offered assistance in evacuating the tourists stuck in Naran due to roads being closed because of snowfall and rain.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) has already started clearing roads of the snow. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed all the federal institutions to help the provincial government in every way possible.
