Summary ECP changed the dates of the 3rd phase of LB polls upon requests by religious parties
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Dates of the 3rd phase of Local Body elections in Punjab and Sindh have on Monday been changed. Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) changed the dates upon requests by religious political parties, reported Dunya News.
According to ECP sources, the third phase of the elections in Punjab and Sindh will now be held on December 5. Various religious parties had requested change in the date since Imam Hussain’s (RA) ‘Chehlum’ is going to be held on December 3.
Representative delegations of Tehreek-e-Naffaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafriya met ECP chief Sardar Raza today after which the decision to postpone the 3rd phase of the election for 2 days was taken.
Earlier, Federal Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali had also suggested postponement of the local body polls in view of the month of Muharram. However, the opposition parties had strongly criticized the suggestion.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders were livid with the suggestion and said that they won’t allow postponing the elections at any cost, reported Dunya News.

PTI leader Umar Sarfraz Cheema said that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) is looking for an escape from the elections but PTI won’t let this happen.
PPP also opposed Abid Sher Ali’s statement. Leaders said that they won’t allow postponement of local body elections in Punjab at any cost.
