KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Parents in various areas have on Friday refused polio vaccine for their children. Officials have warned that those who refuse to get their children vaccinated will be sent to jails, reported Dunya News.
Polio workers had to face difficulties on the third day of polio campaign in 80 union councils of 6 districts of Karachi. In UC 7 Pathan colony of Bin Qasim Town, over 40 parents refused to get their children vaccinated. Moreover, the polio workers had to leave without giving the vaccine to 33 households in Saddar Town as well. Polio teams said that they are facing a lot of difficulties in their campaign.
Many parents did the same in Gulshan-e-Iqbal as well. Assistant Commissioner District East has said that the parents rejecting polio vaccine are convinced under any condition. He said that the parents refusing to comply will be sent to jails.
However, despite the threats and precedents of attacks on polio workers in the past, no special security was provided to the polio workers this time too and they kept working in many sensitive areas without any security whatsoever.
