Dunya News

The plea states that the PM has disrespected the SC's order by addressing the UNGA in English

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A contempt of court plea on Monday has been filed in the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan against Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif for addressing United Nations (UN) General Assembly in English.

The petition has been submitted by Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi.

The plea maintains that the PM has disrespected the SC’s order by delivering a speech at the UNGA in English. The SC had passed an order on September 8 regarding implementation of Urdu in government departments.

The petitioner has requested the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against Nawaz. The plea states that all other world leaders addressed the General Assembly in their national languages.

Earlier, PM Nawaz had delivered a speech at the UNGA on Septmber 30 in which he raised voice for resolution of Kashmir dispute along with other matters.
