Summary

Due to unprecedented water level in Ringpur Canal and breach at Jaffarabad embankment, the district authorities issue flood warning to Muzaffargarh signaling the locals to evacuate at the earliest. However, the non-availability of transport and fuel hampered the locals bid to move to safer places. Water is continuously rising in the Ringpur Canal owing to which water entered Muzaffargarh city. DCO Muzaffargarh said that the floodwater would affect 0.4million people. Meanwhile, authorities opened all the gates of Sukkur Barrage to avert any mishap as water flow increased. Whereas heavy rain was recorded in Karachi due to which water entered into homes in many areas. As per reports, Sukkur Barrage has capacity of 9,40, 000 cusecs water while currently the water flow is 11,15000 cusecs which rose pressure on the spillways. Water flow has been diverted to three canals: Nara, Dadu and Rice canals to decrease the pressure on Barrage. In the meantime, Pak Army is carrying out rescue efforts in Bachal Shah Miani where about 20 villages submerged marooning scores of people. Emergency has been declared due to heavy floods in various areas of Sind including Jaccobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Kandhkot and Kashmore; where as the Indus Highway has been completely closed down for traffic.Addressing a press conference, Irrigation Minister Sindh Jam Saif Ullah Dharyoujo said there is a danger that more flood safety walls can be destroyed in the province. The flood tides in Indus River were quite much in control but when 200,000 cusecs of water added in from the mountains of D G Khan, the situation completely changed. He also told that people living near the Toori Band and Sultanpur Band have already been warned to move to safer places.While on the other side, as soon as the news was broadcasted on Dunya News, 1200 people were provided with relief goods through army helicopter in the area of Kot Wali Dad. According to the spokesperson of Army Media Centre Major Ejaz Sidhu, as soon as the stranded people in Kot Wali Dad were identified by Dunya News, the relief work was immediately initiated. The local administration is also working with the army in relief operation. Almost 10 villages have been severely flooded due to major cracks in the B S Feeder near Kandhkot and the residents are stranded. The water began to overflow from the B S Feeder near the Darri village and locals were forced to leave their houses; where as the water is gradually moving towards the Ghouspur city and it has been evacuated completely. According to the sources, 10,000 people have been stuck in flood water near the B S Feeder. The major crack which is near the Ali Bukhs Augahi village is gradually cutting the National Highway. The latest news confirmed that water pressure is increasing in the B S Feeder due to which small towns of Kandhkot which include Karampur Bajarani, Ghouspur and Darri are in danger. The United Nations has declared that Pakistan floods are worst than Tsunami and Haiti crises.But the Pakistani government estimates that over 13 million people have been affected two million more than the other disasters combined.
