President continues tour of Europe despite annihilation from floods
President Asif Ali Zardari is on tour to UK, at a time when parts of the country are facing terminal food shortages after the worst floods in 80 years. Apart from the floods Pakistan is amidst the worst crises such as terrorism and plane crash, the people of Pakistan are looking up to the President for support. A crowd of protesters gave Zardari an angry reception as he arrived at his central London hotel during the second leg of his tour to Europe, saying the trip was a waste of scarce money that could be better spent on flood relief. The trip was labelled a joy ride by one flood survivor, and a number of British lawmakers of Pakistani origin have pulled out of a planned lunch with Zardari.According to AFP, up to 1,500 people have died as a result of the floods, although there are fears the toll could rise further while the survivors are waiting for government help and relief. President Zardari is busy in a trip to his family's stately home in the French countryside before traveling on to London to begin a five-day visit.The house has belonged to Zardaris family for 24 years and the presidents father, Hakim Ali Zardari, is a regular summer visitor. The 16th-century castle, built for the widow of King Philippe VI. The castle is surrounded by five acres of lakes and wooded parkland and is listed on Frances register of historically significant monuments.
