Afghanistan, Pakistan must decide who's their common enemy, says Pakistan's permanent envoy in UN

NEW YORK: (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s permanent envoy in United Nations (UN) Dr. Maleeha Lodhi has on Friday strongly condemned the allegation on Pakistan of fueling terrorism in Afghanistan. Lodhi said that Afghanistan and Pakistan must decide who their common enemy is. She said that terrorist hideouts are in Afghanistan, reported Dunya News.

Strongly denying the charges of Pakistan fueling terrorism in Afghanistan, Lodhi said that Pakistan’s efforts to bring Afghan Taliban on table with the Afghan government are based on sincerity only. She said that Pakistan can never support any violent activity by Taliban in Afghanistan.

Taking part in a debate in UN Security Council, Lodhi said that terrorist hideouts are present in Afghanistan from where they are attacking military and civilian targets in Pakistan and Afghanistan. She said that those trying to sabotage Pak-Afghan relations are not friends of the two countries. She added that anarchy and chaos in Afghanistan are not in Pakistan’s interest at all.

Pakistan’s permanent ambassador to UN said that no third power can impose its decision on Afghans. “Afghan government will have to take the responsibility of negotiations and Afghans will have to resolve their problems through talks”, he said.

Lodhi said that Pakistan had contacted Taliban for talks upon Afghan president Ashraf Ghani’s request and the only motive behind it was peace in Afghanistan.
