Summary Ranking third in world in milk production, Pakistan cannot set affordable price for milk?

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s largest city and economic hub, Karachi is facing a milk crisis as the dairy product price has gone higher than petrol.

Dairy Farmers Association president said that the government has not approached them in the matter however, the pupils do not fear arrests and penalties. After the federal government provided much needed relief in petroleum products’ prices, the dairy association has taken to unjust demands.

It must be mentioned here that people of the country, which ranks third in world in production of milk are deprived of product’s affordable price. The administration-set price for the product is Rs 70 per litre while the people have no option but to buy it for Rs 94 per litre.

The irked locals said that pressure by the administration leads to protest and strikes and nothing productive. On the other hand, Karachi Commissioner ordered action against several dairy farmers that resulted in fines and arrests.

However, the administration still seems helpless to come up with a counter strategy.
